John Graham

Born in Perth,Western Australia. John Graham is painter, sculptor and film maker skilled in a variety of media and with a broad stylistic range. His work is filled with vivid and colourful images influenced by his travels to Africa, Asia and within Australia. John Graham is also a passionate collector of Tribal Art and has curated several exhibitions featuring works from his collections. Currently living in Melbourne, Australia, John Graham's work is for sale and he is also available for any illustration or painting commissions.

John Graham now lives and paints in Melbourne. John has been exhibiting his paintings since 1986 and participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Graham is an expressionist painter and his subject has remained the landscape and the figure.
Recent work include a series large scale landscapes exploring the elements and the role they play shaping and defining the land.
A series on baboons from Graham’s travels in West Africa place animals into these elemental landscapes that are both benign and threatening.
In his series of dream paintings an unknown and desperate land is populated by a group of disparate characters – a woman, lion, cat, and bird who perform a complicated dance of love and war and death, under the glare of an indifferent sun.

Of his latest series featuring feral cats Graham states…
“In the Feral Cat series I seek to dignify without glorifying a much maligned creature whose notoriety is based purely on its ability to adapt and survive in any environment. The feral cat is a fine example of Darwin’s survival of the fittest and of human folly. The feral cat can be seen as a metaphor for the human race and its ability to colonise and prosper against the odds, in every environment on this planet”

A keen traveler Graham has traveled to Africa, India and Southeast Asia on many occasions. While traveling he has continue to work on a series of watercolours called ‘Paintings from the Road” started on his first overseas travels in 1987. These works are executed during his travels and always reflect the immediate environment.

A self admitted “obsessive collector” John has amassed a considerable collection of Ethnographic art from his travels. This passion not only inspires his own creative work but also directs his choice of travel destination.
